Begin with a visual idea
A costume effect does not need to imitate a familiar character. Colour blocking, pockets, winter tools and deliberately over-engineered gift logistics can suggest festive chaos while leaving room for an original joke. Sketch the idea on the actual garment shape before adding detail.
Design for more than one photograph
Seasonal clothing is more useful when it remains comfortable after the party. Consider layering, indoor heat, decoration feel and the supplied care instructions. A restrained design often travels further than a single giant slogan.
Respect the source material
