Scaly, slimy, cunning, emotionless reptilian humanoid aliens out to devour and enslave the entire human race.

V - The Original Miniseries followed the takeover of Earth by an alien species posing at first as friendly aliens that look just like humans.

But under the mask they were something very, very different.

Originally planned as a non-sci-fi drama based on the pre-war anti-fascism novel "It Can't Happen Here", TV bosses argued that the concept was too highbrow and so it was made as a sci-fi story, with aliens replacing the American fascists.  The fascism angle of the story remained, however, (even the visitor logo bears a striking resemblance to the nazi swastika) with even a Jewish holocaust survivor character was included to emphasise the similarities with the rise of fascism in pre-war Germany.

First they came for the scientists, and I said nothing, because I'm not a scientist.

Remade in the digital era, the new version had modern expensive special effects but sadly lacked the "rising tide" feel of the original miniseries and was quickly cancelled by the network.  

As such, V The Original Miniseries remains close to the hearts of geeks worldwide.
